Rotary Paeroa’s Vintage and Classic Car Swap Meet will rev up in September after two years of Covid-19 roadblocks.
President Margarete Ford told The Profile the organisation was “excited” to welcome back the time-honoured fundraiser and hoped it would be as successful as previous years.
“Like anything we’re a service organisation where we try and make as much money as we can to give back to the community, so we’ve suffered with all our events being cancelled over the last couple of years,” she said.
“It’s mainly to bring people to Paeroa, that was our main intention and it’s a fun day out.”
Margarete said this year’s fundraiser would be held at the grounds at the end of Railway St instead of the traditional location on Wharf St, due to Hauraki District Council’s streetscape project and the “very high” cost of road closures. “They’re beautiful grounds so it’s still close to town for people to come and go,” she said.
“But it’s just that little bit out of town, which is a bit disappointing for us because we love the idea of it around Wharf St where they can just walk to the shops.”
Margarete said as well as the traditional swap meet and car displays, there’ll also be food stalls, kids activities and live entertainment. Funds raised from the event will go toward community projects.
DETAILS: Railway St, Paeroa, September 17. Swap meet from 7am, all cars parked by 10am.
