It was awesome to see the many whānau (families), from near and far, gathered at the Paeroa War Memorial Hall on Wednesday, October 5 for the 2022 Whānau Day Out in Paeroa.
An event full of fun, interaction and information sharing happening between families and the wide selection of local health providers, social service and community groups, including Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki as the hosts of the day.
After two years of isolation periods, lockdowns, and anything else to do with Covid-19 restrictions, Te Korowai Hauora o Hauraki thought it was time to put the wero out to local providers and services to come together and put on a day for our whānau, for our hapori (community), for Hauraki. This day being the 2022 Whānau Day Out, with Connection being the key theme to set the scene.
For many whānau here in Hauraki, there are a variety of barriers that can impact access to services, including the lack of information available around what is available, to who, at what cost and from where. So having a wide range of services, providers and various roopū coming together, under the same roof, at the same venue and supporting this kaupapa, was welcomed.
Whānau who attended the event said that each stall they approached was well put together, that kaimahi tending to those stalls made interacting and communicating seem relaxed and effortless and that they left with a full cup.
“What a day, for myself I was totally taken away by the amount of community support the day received. My whānau loved seeing the tamariki [children] running around and filling the whare with laughter and happiness and also getting involved as much as they could.”
Of course, the 2022 Whānau Day Out would not have been successful without the many contributions and definitely not without the support and sponsorship from so many pākihi (businesses) and services. E kore a mihi e ngū – Thank you all.
