Twelve arrests were made for various offences following the Beach Hop in Whangamatā over the weekend.
Police said the offences included fighting in a public place and breaches of the liquor ban, which resulted in “a large number” of alcohol infringement notices issued.
Police also caught 13 drivers with excess breath alcohol, which it said was “unacceptable” and “disappointing”.
“Waikato has seen its fair share of fatalities on the road over the course of this year and we know that intoxication increases the chance of causing harm on the road,” Police said.
“As the holiday period approaches, this is a timely reminder for drivers to remember the responsibility they have on the road.”
Police said it would continue to target drink drivers to keep roads safe and encouraged anyone who had been drinking to consider not only their safety, but that of other motorists too, and plan ahead by organising a sober driver.
