Thames-Coromandel District Council (TCDC) has reported that a slip about 1km from the start of Old Coach Road means the road is likely to be closed for some time.
TCDC reported yesterday afternoon another 170mm of rain was expected to fall overnight, on top of the 100mm or more that had already fallen in the previous 20 hours in the Coromandel.
Council civil defence controller Garry Towler said the amount of rain was certain to cause slips and further flooding.
“We urge everyone to exercise extreme caution and avoid any travel on the highways if possible, especially after dark,” he said.
