Coromandel holidaymakers in tents are being warned to be extra prepared for heavy rain and windy weather staring Wednesday, January 4, and hanging around through to the weekend.
Thames-Coromandel District Council (TCDC) says MetService New Zealand is keeping an eye on a low pressure system north of New Zealand. It is expected to move slowly south over the next few days, bringing strengthening northeast winds and rain to the upper North Island.
“Hatch a wet weather plan, especially if you are camping,” TCDC Civil Defence Controller Garry Towler said.
“Check your tents’ drainage, make sure they are tied down, and have a place to go if things get uncomfortable.”
Most importantly, check MetService New Zealand for weather updates, follow our Council Facebook page for updates on Council roads and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency for State Highways.
