The Thames Coast Rd at Ruamahanga Bay remains closed on Thursday morning due to a large slip blocking the road after heavy rain during Cyclone Hale this week.
Waka Kotahi NZTA says the coast road between Te Puru and Tapu will remain closed until further notice because of the slip, and advises motorists to avoid the route or delay their journey if possible.
Meanwhile, State Highway 25 between Coromandel to Te Rerenga has re-opened, with a temporary speed restriction of 30km/h in place.
State Highway 25a between Hikuai and Kōpū is now open after a large slip blocked both lanes.
Thames Coromandel District Council reports most council have now reopened after the storm, but advises extra care on the roads today.
“We’re making good progress in clearing and reopening roads after Cyclone Hale. Most roads have now reopened. Some significant slips may take more time to clear. Further tree falls and slips may occur due to waterlogged ground.”
