The main thoroughfare that connects Thames to the eastern Coromandel will reopen only during the daylight, as the New Zealand Transport Agency works to remedy a sizeable crack.
According to Thames-Coromandel District Council, Waka Kotahi/NZTA plans to reopen SH25A between Kōpū and Hikuai on the morning of Wednesday, January 18, during daylight hours only.
The road will be under Stop/Go management between 7am and 7pm, with full closure in place overnight, until further notice.
Cracks across the highway which resulted in its closure on Monday and Tuesday, January 16 and 17, are being closely monitored.
The highway could close at any time if the condition of the road changes to make it unsafe, TCDC said.
“At this stage there is no indication when these travel restrictions on the highway will be lifted.”
