Rotary Paeroa’s popular V8 and Motorcycle Show and Swap Meet which was scheduled to rev up on February 25 has been siphoned due to wet weather.
The fundraising event, which attracted around 5,000 people last year, was set to feature V8 and other classic cars and motorbikes, food stalls, a live band called The Action, a rockabilly fashion show and between 10 and 20 swap meet sites.
Secretary and president-elect Katie McLaren told The Profile the committee made the decision after the recent rainfall left the event venue sodden.
“Yesterday was a massive downpour of rain and heavy rain is scheduled for tonight and rain tomorrow,” she said.
“[The event] being held on the [Paeroa] Domain and being a community asset, the domain was quite soft so the Rotary committee made the decision to cancel the event.
“Obviously, people are disappointed, but people don’t particularly want to come out in the rain, so they understand the reason behind the decision.”
President Margarete Ford said the stall holders would be refunded and the committee would work on setting a new date and venue for the event.
