State Highway 25 between Hikuai and Opoutere is now closed as at 8:20am on March 8.
Waka Kotahi said due to a washout, SH25 between Hikuai and Opoutere is closed until further notice.
“Convoys were allowed through for a short window his morning, but Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises the highway needed to re-close once the convoys were cleared to allow urgent work to continue,” Waka Kotahi said.
“Contractors are cutting further into the hillside to widen the road further away from the underslip.”
The highway first closed at 6am on March 6 after severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours on March 5 left a large washout on the main route.
The road reopened to one lane for light vehicles only with traffic management in place on the afternoon of March 6 until 6pm on March 7 when Waka Kotahi closed the road after the underslip had further detiorated.
Emergency service access will be maintained.
