The Waka ama long distance nationals were held in Whitianga over the weekend, with contestants from all over the country.
Teams from 57 different clubs descended on Whitianga on April 20, fired up and ready to compete. Over the next three days, they rowed through the surf, fighting for the win.
Races covered a variety of distances, from 8 km to the longest race clocking in at 26 km.
The Whitianga races were also qualifying events to determine who will represent New Zealand at the 2023 World Distance Championships in Samoa on August 10-19. The national teams will be confirmed in the next few weeks.
