New playground for Ngatea tamariki

Years of planning, fundraising, and working bees have paid off for Ngatea Playcentre with the installation of their brand-new playground in March.

Playcentre treasurer Tara Carter said the original playground was almost 20 years old and was no longer safe for the tamariki (children) to use.

“Ngatea Playcentre is lucky to have a committed group of hard-working families who rose to the challenge of coming up with the $40,000 required for a new playground,” she said.

“We were fortunate enough to receive grants from Thrifters, W.E Care Community Trust, Grassroots Trust and Waikato Farmers Trust, which got us started. We were also the chosen organisation for the Lion’s golf day fundraiser earlier this year and with their support we hosted a very successful golf day. A huge thank you to Bayleys Real Estate, Williams Engineering, KTL Transport, Richardsons Real Estate, Nick Hoogeveen’s and Associates, Charly the Sparky, WE Hale, Valley Fencing, H.G. Leach and Purnell Jenkinsons, who sponsored holes and to the countless other awesome businesses in our community who donated prizes to allow us to raise $11,000 on the day.

“It is heartwarming to see the tamariki testing their abilities and learning new skills on the playground and we hope Ngatea Playcentre is able to continue to provide the space for whānau in our community to connect, learn and grow together for many more years to come.”
