The Christmas tradition continues for Tauranga-based Scholar’s Baroque, as the choral ensemble brings its annual concert, The Messiah, back to Waihī.
And this year, featured soloist Jonathan Eyers is returning to the choir for the first time since 2019.
The baritone, who sang with Scholar’s Baroque for its first Messiah performance in 2015, said he was excited to be returning to the group for this year’s concert series.
Jonathan has since embarked on a successful career overseas, with opera credits across England and Europe.
Most recently, he placed third at the prestigious 2024 Wigmore Hall/Bollinger International Song Competition in London.
Soprano Gina Sanders, alto Charlotte McDonald, and tenor Iain Tetley will join Jonathan as featured soloists.
Scholar’s Baroque said it was looking forward to bringing the performance back to Waihī.
The performance was very popular last year, it said, with one audience member calling it an “exceptionally good, world-class performance”.
The choir will be joined by the NZ Barok orchestra, and conducted by musical director Chalium Poppy.
