Around 35 people turned out for the launch of Dave Wilton’s new book Archaelogy of ‘The Thames’ Goldfield – Volume 1 at Carson’s Bookshop on November 24.
The Thames historian released his new 210-page book based on the Thames Goldfield, which was published by Te Whare Pātaka The Treasury.
The 72-year-old historian and author told The Profile he enjoyed the book launch.
“[It] gave me a chance to tell some of the people-stories that don’t come through too well in text,” he said.
The Treasury Publications team member Beth McKay said Dave, in his usual inclusive speaking manner, entranced the audience with the history and archaeology of the sites covered in the book.
Beth said it was a “good turnout”, where the audience had lots of questions after the author’s presentation.
Meanwhile, a total of 28 books were sold. According to the author, that was “close to a 100 percent success rate”.
