Giving a toss: Scottish festival fun

The 32nd Paeroa Highland Games and Tattoo took place in Paeroa on February 8. For 12 sun-soaked hours pipers played, strongmen lifted and highland dancers strutted their stuff in the Paeroa Domain, amid a crowd of hundreds of onlookers. Among games of strength, dances, piping and music, a highlight of the event was the Caber Toss – a show of strength where competitors lift and throw a 130-pound wooden beam.

The festivities continued well into the evening with the Evening Tattoo festivities kicking off at 6pm. ALICE PARMINTER went along to enjoy the atmosphere.
