Environmentally friendly service

ADVERTORIAL
Tank maintenance is a very important thing according to Allens United Paeroa owner Ted Milne.
The environmentally friendly septic tank cleaning business has been a household name in the Hauraki-Coromandel for around 50 years, with Ted leading the charge for the past 10 years.
Ted believes people can play their part in helping to care for the environment through tank maintenance.
“Maintenance on the tank is like maintenance of a car… And if you don’t do it, well – you have problems.”
People can end up with all sorts of things, including soakage line problems, overflowing or smell issues if the tank is not maintained, he said.
A regular service every three to five years should be done as a preventative measure, rather than waiting until problems occur.
By taking proactive steps, people can keep their systems healthy, avoid costly repairs and help to protect the environment.
It’s also important that people take care with what goes down the loo.
A few issues Ted has come across are sanitary products and wipes which are “just a nightmare for blockages”.
Harsh chemicals are also bad for tanks because they can disrupt the natural processes that break down waste.
Ted said he was looking at introducing an organic solution called Bio-Zyme to the tank cleaning process, which is a non-toxic and biodegradable New Zealand product.
