Gourdness gracious

Turua School’s annual Giant Pumpkin Competition and Autumn Gala fundraiser was a huge success.

The event, held on March 29, saw dozens of people turn out to compete in the giant pumpkin, decorated gumboot, and wacky vegetable competitions.

There were also plenty of fun activities on offer, including a “train” ride, bouncy castles, face painting, a seedling stall, and the hugely popular “soak a teacher” dunk tank.

The heaviest pumpkin weighed in at a whopping 86kg, grown by Liam and Hannah Urwin.

Turua School raised $4000 at the gala, for their Garden to Table programme and other enriching school activities.

ALICE PARMINTER went along to get her 5+ a day.
