State Highway 25 between Hikuai and Whangamatā has reopened to light vehicles only with traffic management in place.
Waka Kotahi said there was no suitable detour available and motorists should expect delays.
A large washout on the highway caused by severe thunderstorms and heavy downpours on March 5 caused the main route to close just before 6am on March 6.
Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency New Zealand said it responded to seven flooding incidents at Whangamatā homes between 10pm and just after 11pm on March 5.
Metservice also said a trough located near Coromandel Peninsula was expected to move northwards on March 6.
“The trough brings a moderate risk of thunderstorms this morning till early afternoon about eastern coastal areas of the Coromandel Peninsula and possibly Great Barrier Island,” Metservice said.
“These thunderstorms, if they occur, could bring localised heavy rain of 10 to 25 mm/h however there is also a low risk of isolated severe thunderstorms developing, producing downpours with intensities of 25 to 40 mm/h.
“A lower risk of thunderstorms extends over remaining areas of Coromandel Peninsula, Auckland and Northland, mainly this afternoon and evening.”
