Former Tairua-Pāunaui Community Board Elizabeth Anne Stewart-Ball has passed away.
Anne was closely involved in her local community of Tairua, having been involved with the South Eastern ward for over 60 years. She sat on the Tairua-Pāuanui Community Board from 2019 to 2021, and was also a Justice of the Peace.
“It’s a sad loss for our community. Anne was a fantastic historian who also had deep connections with whakapapa and whānau around the district. She will be sorely missed,” Thames Coromandel district mayor Len Salt said.
Anne often spoke of her family background of the ‘Tairua Valley’ – Hikuai, Pāuanui and Tairua, which gave her a sound understanding of the rich history and diverse communities living in this area. She was also an education coordinator in the forestry and waste industries and had extensive volunteer organisation involvement including St John, rugby and heritage.
Anne passed peacefully at home on March 7. A celebration of her life was held at the Whangamatā RSA on March 10.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Anne to the KidsCan Charitable Trust would be appreciated and may be donated online to www.kidscan.org.nz.
