Metservice has issued a heavy rain watch for the Coromandel Peninsula as a low pressure system is expected to move over the upper North Island.
The watch is set to be in place from May 22 at 4pm until May 23 at midday.
“Periods of heavy rain with thunderstorms possible. Rainfall amounts may approach warning criteria in localised areas,” Metservice said.
“Although rainfall amounts may not reach warning criteria over widespread areas, sodden grounds mean that even lower accumulations could bring the risk of impacts such as surface flooding.”
“People are advised to keep up to date with the latest forecasts in case changes are made to warnings and watches.”
