ADVERTORIAL
When it comes to rubbish collection, Coastal Bins wants their customers to see red.
The colour, associated with the business since its inception in 2018, can be found on wheelie bins outside 1700 homes across the Thames Valley and skip bins scattered around the district, or on one of seven trucks seen travelling the area daily.
Seeing the colour red means you are seeing great customer service, Coastal Bins managing director Murray Bain says.
Murray and business partner Michael Barlow are committed to exceptional customer service.
“Our trucks are washed, our trucks are clean, our staff are great, and we take pride in our service, so to me service and presentation is where you win it,” Murray says.
And win they did. In 2020, Coastal Bins took out the Hauraki-Coromandel Business Awards People’s Choice award, with 10 per cent of the votes cast in their favour.
Coastal Bins began from humble beginnings, with two trucks and 20 skip bins. They now boast a fleet of seven trucks and 125 skip bins.
Murray says the secret to their success was being “100 per cent” locally owned and operated.
“There’s no Auckland corporate here!”
Murray lives in Turua, while Michael lives in Thames. Both are keen fishermen.
“Between Michael and I, we’ve got 33 years’ experience in the waste industry, and some of our staff are even longer.
“People like dealing directly with the people who are doing the work and who know the area,” he says.
June will mark the company’s third year in operation, and Murray says its growth has been “exceptional”.
“The area has supported us well and we do appreciate it, but we do work hard to gain that support too. It’s not always easy, but we will go that extra mile.”
At the moment, their wheelie bin trucks are picking up around 200-220 bins a day, but the company has just purchased a side loader rubbish truck to add to their fleet, which will have the capacity to carry between 350-400 bins worth of waste. This will arrive from Australia in late June.
Coastal Bins, based in Kopu, service the Hauraki, Northern Waikato and Thames-Coromandel districts.
They have a professional health and safety regime and a strong commitment to ensuring the safe wellbeing of staff and the general public.
And when it comes to business, the company’s philosophy is simple: “While price should be competitive, it’s the service that counts”.
