Big year planned at Pārāwai

ADVERTORIAL
Pārāwai School is looking forward to an amazing, learning-filled year in 2025, with loads of new innovations and experiences being rolled out for learners.
Over the summer holidays, the new bike and scooter track, that has been fundraised for by the school community, and with grants from the We Care Community Trust and Pub Charity, will be built for the students and community.
The school is looking forward to seeing the students active and involved with their ‘wheels’ at break times, and also on the way to and from school.
This year, learners at Pārāwai School were lucky enough to be the pilot students for the new Ngāhere Discovery Space in the Kauaeranga Valley. This space is the home for the ‘Bush School Programme’, where learners can connect with and learn about our natural environment in the amazing space on their back door step.
All classes and students get the opportunity to visit this space in terms 1, 2 and 4 in 2025, to build on knowledge and experience over time.
The valuable collaboration and connections that form in this Education Outside the Classroom are proving to be so enriching for the students and parents, who volunteer their time to support this programme.
Next year, Pārāwai School will also be launching their new Year 7-8 Technology Programme based at the school. They have recently purchased a new laser cutter for the students to use to create new products, in one of the six streams of technology over the year.
Other streams include cooking/hospitality, engineering, soft materials and movie making. Collaboration with the local Menz Shed will also give students the amazing opportunity to design and create projects with hard materials, but also create community connections.
In small groups of 10-12, these students are getting an amazing learning opportunity, and developing real-life problem-solving and creative thinking skills along the way.
If you want to see more, and keep up-to-date with all these innovations, check out the Pārāwai School Facebook page (Proudly Pārāwai), or look at the website; www.parawai.school.nz.
