The Petersens strum into Thames Valley

ADVERTORIAL
One thing American family band The Petersens know how to do is captivate audiences with their fresh soulful bluegrass music.
It’s something the people of Thames Valley can look forward to finding out first hand as the musical group is set to perform at the Thames War Memorial Civic Centre on February 23 as part of their debut New Zealand tour.
The family band, hailing from the Ozarks in Missouri, is made up of siblings Katie, Ellen, Matt, and Julianne, along with their mother Karen and friend Emmett Franz.
Tight harmonies, heartfelt songs and deep-rooted connection to the traditions of American roots music are all things The Petersens are recognised for.
Their music blends tradition with a modern twist, creating a sound that resonates with fans of all ages.
Promoter Mark Mazengarb, who has brought several acts from the United States of America to New Zealand in recent years, said he discovered the Petersens online through their Youtube channel videos, which have garnered the band more than 250 million views.
“To me, you can’t beat the timeless combination of strong vocal harmonies, good songs, and instrumental mastery,” he said.

Something valuable to Mark, who is also a musician, was finding the ideal setting.
“I’ve really tried to find venues that will match the music, and create that intimate setting that this music fits so well.”
That’s where Peter and Keri Revell of Kauaeranga Music come in. The Kauaeranga Music hosts hold regular concerts in the Kauaeranga hall near Thames, but for their upcoming musical guests, they needed to secure a bigger venue: The Civic Centre.
“I think part of why the Kauaeranga Music works so well is because there is a lot of music that takes place in Thames itself,” Peter said.
Choral music happens at St George’s Church, and they frequently have cellists and pianists, and there are regular gigs at The Rockerbox, he said.
“And I think the fact that we’ve got a dedicated music shop [Garden Music] is really significant.”
The Thames community will have the opportunity to experience a mix of traditional bluegrass and country songs, gospel tunes, popular cover songs and original compositions from The Petersens.
People can expect to be whisked away by the music, the band’s stories about their travels and also a section where The Petersens take questions from the crowd, which makes the concert feel like an intimate gathering with friends.
Every performance will showcase the impressive musicianship and arrangements that complement their harmonies, and a setlist sure to include fan favourites and heartfelt new material to make each show a memorable experience.
While tickets will be sold at the door, purchasing them ahead of time through Eventfinda.co.nz is the best way to secure entry and avoid any queues.
