It’s not easy for Donna Hone to name just one place the inspiration for her art comes from.
That’s because the multifaceted maker, who creates pieces of pottery, knitting, crochet, macrame, dry Gourd lamps and more, has several sources she draws from.
The artist told The Profile if anyone was to look at her Pinterest board, they would see she has to live until she is 300 years old to complete all the tasks on there.
“I get inspiration from there, but the list is so long,” she said.
People can see some of her inspired pieces on display in the Crosby Gallery at the Paeroa Arts Centre until March 9 from 10am to 3pm daily.
Another place she draws inspiration from is her garden.
Donna was currently working on a pottery piece which had impressions of different weeds and leaves pressed into the clay.
While Donna believed art was for looking at – she hadn’t moved into that arena yet because “my things have to be functional”.
But her passion for art was clear.
Donna loved learning and trying new things, and sharing that with others, she said.
Some of Donna’s art, such as the Gourd lamps, would be seen at their fullest potential at night time when lit up with a small light or candle.
It’s something people can expect to see later in the year with the Art Centres Matariki celebration light show, where Donna and other artists will have their light pieces exhibited.
