ADVERTORIAL
At Te Kura Tuarua o Te Kauaeranga – Thames High School, sport is more than just an extra-curricular activity – it’s a vital part of student development.
Aligned with our vision to grow together to reach one’s true potential, we are committed to making physical activity accessible to every student, regardless of skill level or experience.
Whether you’re a competitive athlete or simply enjoy getting active, our kura offers the ideal environment to participate, have fun, and grow. We believe every student should experience the many benefits of sport – building confidence, leadership, and teamwork – while staying active and healthy. It’s not just about winning; it’s about participation, enjoyment, and personal growth. We offer a wide range of sports, including rugby, netball, football, basketball, athletics, volleyball, mountain biking, chess, golf, and more.
Students can join competitive teams, recreational groups, or take part in our Active As lunchtime and after-school “have-a-go” sessions. Led by our Sports and Active As Co-ordinator, Tess Watts, with support from Alicia Costello and Xavier Brown, our team is here to help students get involved.
If there’s a sport you’re keen on, Tess and the team will do their best to support it. Inclusion and accessibility are at the heart of our sports programme. The Active As initiative promotes equal opportunities and supports students with diverse needs, encouraging participation without pressure.
With strong links to local clubs and excellent facilities, sport at Thames High is about creating experiences, developing life skills, and fostering a lifelong love of physical activity.
